This programme is for the first London production of the musical play, The King and I, music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein with a successful run of over two years, 1953 – 1955. Based on an original book called Anna and the King of Siam, by Margaret Landon. Mr Herbert Lom plays the main lead male character, The King.
The programme is filled with lovely advertisements, detailed illustrations, and photos.
Page 5 has a photo of Valerie Hobson, who plays the lead female character, Anna, in a particularly beautiful stage costume evening gown which sits off the shoulder, with her hair swept back and pinned with a feathered hair ornament. Below is a wonderfully striking photo of Mr Herbert Lom in his regal and oriental stage costume and hat for his character the King.
The cast list is presented across pages 9&11. The programme comes with two additional ticket stubs from the attendees of the matinee performance 26/1/55.
