The Avenue Theatre opened in 1882, and was proudly built unusually with safety as priority. However nothing could have protected the theatre from a most unexpected disaster….in the winter of 1905 two sections of the roof of Charing Cross Station collapsed on to the theatre. It took two years to rebuild and in 1907 the Avenue Theatre became The Playhouse Theatre.
This is an 8 page programme printed on card in coloured ink; a handy size for carrying. The contents describe the location of each scene and are accompanied by adverts. A particular highlight of the show would appear to be Miss Phyllis Broughton performing her ‘celebrated Sappho Valse’.
