Oscar Asche and Lily Brayton were husband /wife actors that formed their own theatrical company in 1904. These theatrical entrepreneurs continued pushing the boundaries and in 1907 became co-managers of His Majesty’s Theatre, of which Herbert Beerbohm-Tree was the proprietor.
This 1907 theatre programme is more of a collection, presenting, as part of Oscar Asche and Lily Brayton’s Season, Attila. Set in 453 A.D it is a play in four acts written by Laurence Binyon.
The collection has three items: the main theatre programme with cast list and synopsis of scenery; a separate four page insert setting out the history behind the play, some musical examples of the overture and a print of the determined Attila himself on the back page; and thirdly a special note advertising their next production. A fascinating read.
