Built in Fraser Street, Liverpool, The Shakespeare Theatre, opened in 1888. At the time of this programme Mr Fred Collins was the lessee of the theatre, and with his son, Horace, continued to present, and became well known for, variety shows; the BBC broadcast many of the shows. This particular programme presents a stage and TV favourite, the much-loved Billy Cotton’s Band. Who remembers WAKEY WAKEY !!!
The theatre was destroyed by fire in 1976 and, what was left, was demolished.
