This special picture house programme stars Will Hay, a hugely popular comedian in his day. This programme includes the 2 weeks commencing 4th and 11th January.

The Stoll Theatre descended from grand origins as it was original built as the glamourous London Opera House. After many ups and downs the Opera house closed and Oswald Stoll took over building in April 1916 and the Stoll Picture Theatre emerged showing silent movies with an organ and a large accompanying orchestra.

Due to the blitz in World War 2, Stoll Picture House closed in September 1940 reopening in 1941. However, Oswald Stoll died soon after and Mr. Emile Littler took over and returned it to live theatre, renaming it Stoll Theatre.

Tragically, it was demolished in 1958 for office development, yet another old theatre lost in the name ‘progress’.
