This 128+ year old theatre programme presents a very popular genre of its day: variety. Built in 1884, the Empire Theatre was one of the main theatres in Leicester Square, becoming the Empire Theatre of Varieties in 1887. However, in 1927 the popularity of the cinema took over and the theatre closed in deference to the silver screen.
