The programme consists of a single sheet of cream card paper with 2 fold creating 6 pages printed in brown ink.

The three external pages have been illustrated in green, gold and brown. The front cover has a very ornate illustration framing the print ‘Duke of York’s Theatre’ and also informs us of the lessee and manager, Mr. Charles Frohman.

Mr Charles Frohman presents Mr Lewis Waller and his company in this production of A Royal Rival. Written by Gerald Du Maurier, adapted from Dumanoir and D’Ennery’s Don Cesar De Bazan.

It stars the Lewis Waller as King Henry Fifth. Mr Lewis Waller, born William Waller Lewis, 3/11/1860 – 1/11/1915, was a popular English stage actor in London Theatre and also a successful stage manager. Over the span of his successful acting career he enjoyed playing more serious roles and often performed in Shakespeare productions.

The cast list of the performance spreads across the centre of the internal pages. The only advertisement is for The Bishops Candlesticks, a play by Norman McKinnel which was based on Les Miserables and preceded A Royal Rival.

Date stamp dates the programme 28/8/1901 on the bottom right of internal right-hand page.
