Theatre: London Pavilion
Performance: Le Moulin Rouge plus Variety
Main Performers: Variety Acts
This rare and exquisite programme has three colourful panels showing a dancer, an actress and an elegant woman in a theatre box. The programme presents numerous variety acts, for which the London Pavilion was famous, plus the main attraction: Le Moulin Rouge. To accompany this star performance is an additional lightweight programme offering the Synopsis and Cast. The condition of these programmes is extraordinary adding to its rarity.
The London Pavilion was well known for music hall entertainment since 1885 and continued to present musicals, including Noel Coward’s On With the Dance in 1925. However, as with many other theatres, in 1934, the London Pavilion was converted to a cinema. In 1981, the cinema was closed and since then the building has been incorporated into The Trocadero and has housed many popular exhibitions.
