This 1919 Theatre Royal Drury Lane theatre programme has the typical design favoured by the theatre during this period. The front cover design represents the original 1662 charter granted by King Charles II to Thomas Killigrew, who built the first Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1663. Unfortunately, the original theatre was destroyed by a fire in 1672. There have been four theatres built on the site. The present theatre was opened in 1812 and designed by Benjamin Wyatt.
The theatre programme consists of a cream smooth paper with black printed ink and presents Il Trovatore, a romantic opera with music by Guiseppe Verdi. Includes synopsis of the opera; a variety of interesting illustrated advertisements.
16 pages, including outside covers; approx. 22cms x 14cms.
