The programme is for the performance of Patience by D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in for the Christmas season of 1959-1960 at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England.  The programme has just two advertisements on the back-cover page, one for the theatre’s winter season plays and the second promoting the theatre’s restaurant. The cast list is presented across page 2.

Gilbert & Sullivan were a prolific and successful two-man team who created fourteen comic operas together over a period of around 25 years. William S. Gilbert, born in London, (1836-1911) was a successful lyricist, poet and illustrator. Arthur S. Sullivan was the composer, also born in London, (1842-1900), the son of a military band master.

The programme is made up of a single sheet of paper with a vertical spinal fold to create 4 pages including front and back cover pages; approx. H25cm x W19cm.
